Fitness
A Brief Overview:
Fitness covers a broad
spectrum of activities that can range from simply going for a walk to
athletic competition at the Olympic level and everything in between.
Fitness programs exist
in an organized manner in public areas such as the school system or organized
by municipal parks & recreation departments.
There are private
operators of fitness/health clubs and a wide range of corporations who
have also entered the structured physical workout environment. Recent
government studies have shown that while most everyone would like to be
active and physically fit, that over 50% of Canadaıs population (including
children) would be classified as deconditioned or out-of-shape.
These studies have
also shown that even a moderate amount of activity a couple of times per
week can result in a measurable increase in your state of health. The
challenge for the entire fitness industry in todayıs increasing sedentary
society is to offer people ways of staying healthy and active in the time
available.
