Ball Hockey Ball Hockey has its origins in the game many of us played with a tennis or other ball, on the street, in the school yard or shopping centre. The organized version is played indoors, in the summer on the same surface as ice hockey but without the ice. The same number of players three forwards, two defencemen, and a goalie are on the floor at one time, however while the goalie is dressed similar to an ice hockey goalie (no skates) the other players tend to only were gloves and a helmet for protection. An orange coloured, somewhat hard ball that has little bounce to it is generally used. Running shoes are worn on the feet and like lacrosse a great deal of running is involved. The rules of play are the same as ice hockey regarding penalties, scoring, offsides, etc., with referees making the calls.
