Team Handball
A Brief Overview:
Team Handball is a
versatile sport in that it may be played both indoors and outdoors by
any number of players. The game is a synthesis of the three fundamental
athletic disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. A team consists
of 14 players in Olympic and International competition, 12 in accordance
with the CTHF rules.
Only six court players
and a goalkeeper play at a time. The object of the game is each team tries
to throw the ball into the goal of the opposing team and to defend its
own goal against the attacks of its opponents. The ball is played with
the hands, but it may also be touched or played with any part of the body
above, and including, the knees. Players may bounce the ball repeatedly
with one hand when running, walking or standing.
Part of the game's
fast pace stems from the fact that a player cannot run with the ball for
more than three steps, unless bouncing it, and that the ball may only
be held for a maximum time of three seconds by any player.
