Youth Recreation
A Brief History:
The mission of the
Boys and Girls Clubs is to enhance the development, self imageand empowerment
of children and youth.
A special focus is
placed on less advantaged individuals. Scouting is a worldwide movement
of youth groups whose objective is to help boys and girls develop character,
citizenship, and physical and mental fitness by training members in wood,
field, and handicraft activities and by encouraging community service.
Many nations have scouting organizations, and the number of boy and girl
scouts totals several million members throughout the world.
The Young Men's Christian
Association (YMCA), founded in England in 1844 and the YWCA, formed in
1894, are an international network of nonsectarian organizations that
provide athletic, recreational, cultural, and educational services to
their members. These organizations conduct night classes, vocational instruction,
and civic training, in addition to organizing sports activities and social
events and arranging camping trips.
